FYI

Well, tomorrow night we (my sister, my fiance, and I) will be hittin' the road. We are en route to our parents' home for the baby shower of our future niece (for whom I've been knitting up a storm! I may not be so active on KR or any of my kals or even my own blog because my parents have dial-up. Yes, you read correctly. Knitting has taught me patience, but I'm not that patient! Anyway, I may be lurking on KR or my kals or I might not so I thought I'd post this just so those who come to my blog know what's going on.

Ooooh, I just discovered the Edit Html button. I didn't know I could decide there in what order I wanted my pictures to appear! I've been wasting all this time trying to upload my pictures in the 'right order.' The things you learn...I'm going to miss blogging while I'm gone! Hope everyone has a great Labor Day!

a time of completion

Here is the dreaded garterlac dishcloth which I completed yesterday @ about 11 in the morning. Blogger, if you read my previous post, was messing with me so the last thing on my mind was creating new posts to my blog. I really, really did not enjoy making this. Sure, colors are great and it looks great, but I guess I'm annoyed with the fact that I had to alter the pattern to fit my needs. I know, a lot of people like to alter patterns. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of those people. In this case though, I wasn't expecting to have to alter it and that's why I'm not as enthused about this finished object as I am about others. It's done though. I'll probably make @ least one more down the line but not anytime soon. I need space from that pattern!! Yesterday, I got in this 'I need to finish stuff' mode and I'm still in it. I finished these finally this morning. They weren't difficult @ all but they were tedious. The pattern wasn't anything exciting but aren't they cute? One is a wee bit bigger than the other but for some reason, that's how I knit! If I'm working on a pair of something, the second one is most likely going to be a bit smaller because my tension is different. Go figure. That's why I like scarves. After I get all my posting done here and on the kr boards, I'm going to go back to my IHS because I am determined to finish that thing soon. The next dishcloth for my dishcloth kal is going to be announced on Friday and I'd kind of like to clear something off of my "What's On The Needles" slate if you know what I mean. ;)

I hate blogger!!!!!

After spending an excessive amount of time fixing my page (because it somehow was a complete and utter mess) and I thought it was because I know nothing about html other than copying and pasting [which can only take you so far!], I found out that blogger was having issues. Oh, my page was an embarrassment yesterday! So I apologize to anyone who came to my page and saw it in its disarray! I thought the problem was when I was trying to add the code for the knit 1 blog 2 webring I just joined. I tried removing that code (since it was really the only new thing I had added to my page yesterday) but my page was still messed up! Messed up how you might say. Well, I had a light blue background, right? For some reason, the top half of the page was light blue, the middle part was dark blue (so you couldn't read any text!) and the rest of the page was light blue. Not to mention the lil design that came with the template on the right hand side was all jacked up! What else?? I continued to play aroung with it, and soon the text was all garbled up!!! I couldn't walk away either, being the perfectionist that I am! I had to fix it. So then I thought, maybe I should just try to choose a new background and that'll work. I started to just select the same background but I didn't complete creating a new background. Guess what I found this morning. A naked page. A naked page meaning all the work I had put into my page to beautify it was no gone. Did I have a back-up to all my codes I used? Heck, no. Now yesterday, I was flitting around the net anyway looking @ new templates. I wanted to give a 3 column template a whirl so I downloaded some and tried to use them but the one I dl'd didn't work. SO, I had to go searching for another template. Of course I didn't bookmark the page that had all the links to templates I liked. Only a genius would think to do that! In any case, here's my new blog! It's pretty spiffy. I learned a few things and I'm starting to get this html stuff. Now if only I could figure out how to change my banner and create my own button, my world will be complete! Okay, next blog will be about knitting stuff, I promise! :)

finally!

After frogging an infinite number of times, I have finally started to figure out this garterlac pattern! I ended up having to alter the pattern a bit to meet my needs. I wanted to be able to knit it w/o having to do anything to the pattern. Call me crazy. I prefer things straight-forward like that. This is where I left off @ about 10 this morning. I haven't touched it since. I plan to finish it tonight (shouldn't be too difficult) and then I'm going to focus my attention on other things like maybe the baby mitts I started @ about the same time I started this dishcloth..or maybe that besotted scarf. Right now I'm looking @ different versions of the completed my so-called scarf so I can figure out what kind of yarn I want to use because I don't foresee myself purchasing any manos del uruguay right now!

my triangular shawl (so far!)

There it is. :) I haven't worked on it in about a week. It's so nice and soft..it'll make a nice lil lap blanket when it starts getting chilly here. The yarn I'm using is TLC Cara Mia. I purchased that yarn a while ago and I couldn't figure out what I wanted to make with it. I tried socks but I soon found out that the yarn wasn't stretchy enough to be socks. Then I stumbled upon the triangular shawl that the knitting novices yahoo group were doing. I had never made a shawl before and I thought this would be the perfect project for this yarn. :) So far so good.

2 more works in progress!

You read correctly. I have started 2 more projects-as if that's really a big shock! One is the garterlac dishcloth for my dishcloth fun kal. My yarn finally came in. I am having the absolute worst time with it. I can do the bottom triangles but I think I'm doing the increasing side triangle wrong and you can forget about the square! I tried my hardest to get a good pic of the design in the scarf but with all those crazy colors (my fiance picked out this yarn btw), it was difficult. It is the beginnings of the besotted scarf. When I'm working on it, I can see it pretty well. It's cool how the x's and o's take shape. I have put the IHS on hold for now. I'll finish it eventually though. I'm having a bit more fun with this one...but there's more of a pattern to keep up with here. Oh goodness, I don't have a pic of my triangular shawl that I started. I will post it in another blog so I can have record of my progress.

something in the works

See this lovely beautifully made poncho on the hallway carpet? I'm in the process of frogging it. :O Yes, you read correctly. It was given to me by one of my students' mothers as a Christmas gift 2 years ago. I love it but it's way too big on me. It didn't occur to me until a few days ago that I could totally take the yarn from it and do something with it. So, I am in the process of frogging it and man oh man is it a pain! I'm almost done too. I've got a couple of sweaters @ my mother's house that are too small for me and the yarn is gorgeous..something else I'm going to frog for future use. :)

another FO: garter stitch shoes

Here they are, a complete pair! :) I was dragging along to finish the second one. I was dreading having to do the seams..which took forever! I worked on them while watching "Final Destination 3" haha. I'm going to wait on adding the embellishments because I'm not quite sure what I want to add. I have some little rosettes that I could add but I dunno yet. We'll see how it goes. And now, on the needles I have my first of 2 baby mittens. There was a pattern on the knitty gritty site. I started the pattern, didn't like it because I want to avoid having to do anymore seaming and I frogged it. I hope it fits. I'll definitely post a completed pic of the first mitten and when I have the pair done. :)

my apologies

To those who have been to my blog recently! I didn't know that my links weren't up. I made a mistake when creating my photobucket account, wanted it disabled and then emailed saying why I wanted it disabled and asked if they could just fix my mistake and they chose to disable it! I added a counter! :) Now if I could just figure out how to add a calendar, all will be well in my world. My yarn that I'm waiting on to start my garterlac dishcloth will be arriving shortly! I've been waiting very patiently for it. I just placed an order last night for some peaches and cream yarn too! :)

I actually completed it a couple of days ago but I didn't have a chance to post a pic of the completed project until now. So here it is. I'm a bit behind on the dishcloth kal because I'm waiting on my yarn that I ordered to get here! I tracked it, and the stuff I ordered should be getting here on Tuesday. Then I get to start on the garterlac! Right now I'm contemplating joining the triangular shawl kal that the knitting voices group started way back in January! Thankfully, it's ongoing. I might just be the last one to join. Oh well. I have yet to make a shawl and I actually wanted to make one during the whole poncho craze. I've got a poncho that was given to me by one of the parents @ my school and unfortunately it's too big. The wheels have been turning as to what I'd like to make with all that yarn...

oh my stars!

I have been quite busy today but not in terms of knitting! I posted a couple of questions on the conquering cables kal and the help I got is what has made me so busy. If you are a frequent visitor to my blog (that would be..oh, just me!) you'll notice the new progress bars! Plus I changed the template so I had to figure out how to post the buttons since I didn't do it the first time around, my fiance did. I wasn't happy with the progress bars I started out with so I had to figure out how to make them the way I really wanted them..and that I did. :) I feel so accomplished because I did it all by myself!

what's left on the needles...

These are only two of the three things that I claim to still have on the needles. My blanket-in-progress shouldn't count as I have nothing on the needles that pertains to it right now. ;) I'm slowly chugging along on the IHS. I think if I hadn't stopped to start and finish up baby items, I might be done with this scarf by now. I've lost the love I had established for it during the time I wasn't working on it. I worked on it a bit last night. I finally finished a skein and will probably begin the second skein tomorrow. It's 18 inches long right now so by the time I finish this scarf it'll be 54 inches long! Wow. Ohhh, I have to get started on the second bootie for my future niece! That won't take too long though. I plan to finish this scarf soon! I want to get started on other cable projects! Now, I just recently (say last night!) joined a dishcloth kal. I saw this dishcloth in the mason-dixon book and lo' and behold, there it was in a dishcloth kal! I had some cotton yarn that I didn't know what I was going to do with and viola, I stumbled upon the kal! I was a bit hesitant to join because I've seen a lot of detailed dishcloths flying around. Plus, money is a bit tight right now. ANyway, I quickly began on this dishcloth and a lil while ago, I realized we were all supposed to do a different twist on the edging! Ugh..I guess for my second one that's what I'll do. I really like it. When I saw pics of other people's dishcloths, I sat there wondering how in the world did they do that! :) Now I can be someone for others to marvel about. :)

the creatures have invaded!

Well, this is what I plan on sending my one skein secret pal. I hope she likes them! These toasty pocket creatures really stretched my knitting prowess. I'm not bad after all. The first one looks like it has no face but it actually has bobble eyes. The other two have button eyes. They're all filled with sachets of rice and lavender. I hope she isn't sickened by the scent! I have yet to mail them out to her because I can't bear to part with them just yet. They're still sitting on our kitchen table exactly like in the picture! :) In this picture, they are with the one I made for my fiance. I guess I improved with each one. I wish I had gotten a better pic of the tail because it's so cool! Here he is alone. If you look really closely, you can see a lil smile on him. :) Oh yeah, his name is Squirt.

This should be a better shot of of my cool gift from my one skein secret pal! :) I wish I knew how to sew. I know it isn't that difficult but I don't sew very well-yet. I need to learn how to use a sewing machine too! I bet I could make something with a lining too..and attach snaps and suck! :)

This lovely item is what my secret pal via one skein sent me! I wish I had taken a better pic of it. I'll have to do that after I get back from Target. The lighting wasn't good. You need to appreciate the detail! I absolutely love it. Thank you Robyn! :) In case you're not quite sure as to what it is, I use it to carry $$ in. I have yet to try to see if my phone'll fit. If it does, score!

What I've accomplished (part 2)

It's been so long since I tried to post more than one pic in a post that I forgot there's a certain science to it! I refused to have to retype what I had already typed about the bootie (because that's the only way I know how to work around it!). Therefore, here is a separate post. This isn't the hat I had wanted to make so it's going to have to be one of many (or @ least 2!). I started another pattern but thought I had already made someone else that same hat last summer when it turns out, I made this hat last summer. Oh well. I'm going to start on another hat (they're so easy and quick!). Then I'm going to try to finish my gift for my secret pal for the one skein exchange as well as the 2nd bootie!

What I've completed so far (part 1)

This would be bootie #1 for my future niece. :) I finally figured out how to knit the damn thing. I tried to knit this same bootie last summer and for some reason I and the pattern weren't working well together. I tried again not too long ago and I saved what I did so that I'd have a visual of what not to do. Thankfully, both of the Debbie Bliss books I purchased had patterns that would give me this bootie. For some reason, her pattern made much more sense to me. It was such an accomplishment to finally figure out how to knit the freakin' thing. Now I just need to add embellishments and stuff but I'm saving that for when I finally have a pair!
