knitting plenty

Well, I've got a few fo's that I haven't mentioned yet. I finished my mad color weave socks over the weekend as well as my fingerless mitts that I had been working on. I cast on for a pair of techguy socks and I decided to try this chevron pattern I saw on ravelry. Gosh, I also finished that pair of dashing-not sure if I blogged about their completion yet.
I picked up some manly yarn from the loopy ewe. Both are shibui knits sock yarn. I may just knit up some plain stockinette socks we'll see. Why are men's sock patterns so boring??
This would be my final package of the Blue Plate Special Sock Club courtesy of Khris of Chewy Spaghetti fame. A few other fun things came with the skein as always. Looking forward to my next Chewy Spaghetti Club starting in February. :)
Halloween will soon be upon us and I finally got my wings for my costume. The First grade partnership and the Kindergarten partnership are going to be fairies. I didn't want to be too girly though. I wanted black wings. And I got some. I just hope it won't be too hot on Halloween because I'll most likely be in all black. I was thinking goth fairy after looking at some pictures but that would entail needing to pick up some white lipstick and I'm too lazy for that! My fiance and I have been driving around to look at houses that are decorated for Halloween and there are less houses done up nicely this year than last year. He was pretty bummed out about it. Oh well. Hope everyone has a happy halloween!

the hills of los angeles are burning

If you've seen the news, you know this is true. I just want to make sure my readers know I'm okay and have been unaffected by the fires. At least, my apt. has been. My school is on the way towards where the Malibu fire is. I was actually on my way to the Palisades yesterday when I saw the alert on the freeway about the fire! Here's a pic of what we saw later in the day while driving around Santa Monica. I didn't any tv yesterday so I didn't hear about all of the other fires until today. Crazy. I hope they all get contained quickly. We've got a student that lives in Malibu and they were smoked out. One of the teacher is in the Topanga area which isn't too far from Malibu. In knitting's my second mad color weave sock nearly finished. I think by the end of tonight I should have a pair to call my own. I have to say that this pair of socks will get to be worn in public. The other socks I have made are a bit too thick for me to wear with shoes but these might be just right!
Here's a close-up of my greenery hat. I took other pics but they didn't do the colorway justice like this shot did.
Today, my class and I went on a field trip to the Pumpkin Patch! :) I wish I could post some of the pics of them trying to find the pumpkin with the spider drawn at the base of it. I got a lot of great shots.
Instead, you'll just have to look at pumpkins!

a few wips..and a possible spoiler!

As promised, here are a couple of shots of a couple things I started earlier this week. I don't get very much time to knit during the course of the school day and when I do get time to knit, I like it to be stuff that's a bit mindless. Even though I did work a bit on my mad color weave sock @ school last week! This is the beginnings of a new fingerless mitt. I tried to find the link for the pattern but for some reason it's no longer available. I looked it up on ravelry as well and nothing. The pattern is "Chavi's Fingerless Mitts." I had intended to use this yarn for a pair of socks but changed my mind @ the last minute. So far so good. :) I like how it's coming along. Now to figure out what I'm going to do with the second skein of this stuff! This would be the very early beginnings of my greenery hat. I'm using rock lobster from sereknity boutique and you know what? My yarn smells like pumpkin pie!!! :9 I keep smelling it every chance I get. It must smell so yummy because accompanying my yarn was a package of apple spice potpourri!

WARNING...Possible Spoiler if you're in the YP sock club!!

In the mail today, I received this somewhat unanticipated package from the yarn pirate! I knew a package would eventually be arriving but I didn't expect it today. So here's what I got (sans the yp button that I noticed after the fact!). The new colorway is called "Killer Bees." And there are my new pairs of circular needles!! :)
Looking for a sock pattern for that special man in your life?? lol. Try this on for size. I, unfortunately don't have any yarn in my stash for this cool pattern just yet. I'm hoping one of my sock clubs will provide me with some. ;) I've got some str in lagoon but that stuff is ear-marked for a pair of techguy socks.
Speaking of the men in your lives, yesterday, I stumbled upon some new pattern books for stuff for guys. I saw this over at amazon: It has yet to be released but should be out early next month. I can't wait! I could use some man patterns..preferably more socks, more hats, and more mitts/gloves. I'm actually glad my fiance isn't much of a sweater guy because having to knit a sweater would kill me. There were a few other knitting pattern books for men but this was the one that caught my attention--and check out that price!
I also have ordered a few baby pattern books since I'm looking for the perfect sweater pattern for the lil munchkin using my chewy spaghetti stuff in alluring. Khris was gracious enough to send me another skein because the first one I had had knots. Thanks, Khris! I'm looking into toddler sized stuff-anything smaller, she won't wear for very long.

bad habit

I'm starting to make this a bad habit-this not blogging thing. That's not good, not good @ all! I come baring pictures though. So hopefully I'll be forgiven for my lack of blog posts because of all these cute baby pics! This, my friends, is the lil bulldog! She's standing on her very own two feet. She walks and 'runs' as well. She's also very good at hiding behind people if she's not quite used to you yet.
And she's still quite mischievous. We were trying to watch "The Astronaut Farmer" and this lil munchkin kept picking up remotes, walking up to the tv pressing buttons, playing with cell phones etc. It was too funny.
Here she is with a 'chew toy' she created. These pics were taken in her new home. She has her very own home now and won't be right next door to my old bedroom at home when we visit for the holidays. :( We didn't get to spend very much time with her because we arrived Saturday afternoon rather than late Friday night. She didn't really get a chance to get re-used to us but we're hoping Thanksgiving will be enough to get her to remember who we are. She did allow me to chew on her hand while we were watching the movie though. Lil' nut.
Proud moments:
She remembered the lil trick I taught her the last time I saw her--which was how to play with her lips and create different sounds.
When I realized she has my eyes. I don't remember how I noticed it but I mentioned it to my mom and she told me she already knew that!
Watching her walk and run around--because I had been so worried that she'd continue to be a bit behind developmentally. I can't wait to for Thanksgiving time!!
Now in non-baby's my TvYarn sock kit! The theme was "Fried Green Tomatoes" which is one of my favorite, favorite movies! The soap is heavenly, the sours yummy and the yarn is waiting patiently amongst my ever-growing stash. I'm trying to figure out what I'd like to make with it..
Speaking of ever-growing stash, I'm noticing more and more each day, that I really need to stop buying yarn--@ least for a bit! I have a small space as it is for my stash and rather than stash creatively, I'm going to attempt to use up my stash for projects. Although I do wish that I had more solid yarns in my stash! I plan on knitting up some baby items for my niece and a friend who is expecting. I also plan on a second pair of socks for my fiance, some fingerless mitts for myself, and some more hats! I finished a pair of these last week for my fiance and I'm almost done with my mad color weave socks! :) The fingerless mitts I just finished are soooo luxuriously soft. I'm so glad I only used up one skein. I've got enough to whip up another set of mitts for me!
My sister is reconvening her knitting lessons tonight apparently and my fiance might join in as well since he only knows how to purl (or maybe knit--I can't remember!).
Oh..I did a brainless thing over the weekend. I blocked all my recent fo's and with it being cold out, I wanted to speed up the drying process so they wouldn't be smelly and I threw a few items into the dryer on low. My thermal started to felt! :o It still fits but rather than it being a lil bit big on me, now it almost fits me to a tee. :P Sigh..I'm going to try to do some steam blocking to see if that'll give it some stretch. Cross your fingers for me. My fiance laughed at me. :P So much for trying to speed things up!!

Thursday night

Today was quite the mail day. I finally received my Sept. sock kit from Robyn's Nest. :) I'm finding that my yarn isn't fitting any longer in its current location. This is a very bad thing. I need to start knitting up some projects with my stash! I've gotta make room for the incoming yarn neighbors! I completed my third fake isle hat last night. :) A picture will be up on ravelry as well as here. I also cast on for a pair of dashing with that db cashmerino aran my sp sent me. :) I hope I have enough yarn.
Tomorrow, I will be going to visit my family. The lil bulldog turned ONE yesterday. She shares her bday with knottykitty. :) I haven't seen the lil munchkin since the end of June! I received some news earlier this week regarding her. Apparently, my brother, his gf, and the lil one will be moving out soon into a place of their own. :o It's going to be weird coming back to visit and not being able to wake up and see her there! :( So I'm bummed about that but I'll get over it. It isn't like they'll be living as far away as my sister and I currently live from our parents! They will only be about 10 min. away I think. My poor parents though. It's strange to think that soon they will be the only ones living in the house. I'll be back to play catch-up come Monday!

hey, guess what I heard from tiennie? She said that Sundara is starting up a new yarn club called the "Seasons" Yarn Club. You get to pick which season you'd like your yarn to be dyed in be it a spring color, autumn color, summer color or a winter color. I thought it was a cool idea. You receive 8 skeins of Sundara yarn in total. :o She's taking subscriptions until the end of this month or until she's reached her maximum limit... and some news! Today was the first full day of Kindergarten and I have to say, by about..oh, 1:45, I was ready to kill some of my students. lol. Thank goodness for lunch breaks!! Other news (good news!) my fiance went in for a check-up to see how things were going and the doctor said so far so good. Even better good news is I found out today that if I want him to be covered under my insurance, he can be. whew!
