now i know what everyone was talking about

I've spent a good amount of my day (which has been spent in bed with my ankle elevated) on ravelry and now I truly know how addicting it can be. I've been playing afternoon scrabble, word association, and a couple other games on the remnants board which is now officially my favorite board to keep up with! lol. I'm considering casting on for a lace ribbon scarf (even though my ise6 pal gifted me with one!) and I know that I will definitely be casting on for my lapping waves hat--my needles finally came!!!!!!!

a bit of knitting

I know, I've posted too many posts in one night. Sorry. I'm on a roll! I finally had a chance to take a pic of my vintage rose socks in the chuckanut drive colorway. So here's where it stands right now. I'm still on the fence if I like how it's coming along.

thanks nicolle!!!

Today, I received a package from my prge spoiler, nicolle! :) I kind of like knowing early on who is spoiling me. :) She sent this super cool cat and sushi stitchmarkers!!! I love them! I now am the proud owner of Knitting Circles Around Socks and Nicolle made me a mix cd which I'm going to listen to on the way to work tomorrow in the morning! :) She also sent me some sock patterns. The one on the left is the Poseidon Socks pattern (boy, does she know me well! It is definitely up my alley!) and the Zombie socks pattern which I will eventually knit up using the jitterbug she sent me!! :) Thanks again Nicolle!!

SP 12 Question #13

If you were told you could never again buy yarn, would would your last yarn purchase be? Wow! This is a lot of questions to ponder. I couldn't imagine being told I could never buy yarn again. Oh my. As for the last yarn I would purchase? I couldn't even say. I'd have to buy out woolgirl and my favorite etsy sellers! If you were told you could never knit again, what would be the last thing you’d knit?? Socks or a hat. In a given year, how many times do you buy yarn? And what is your favorite place to buy yarn from? A festival? A shop? Online? Dish your favorite places!! I can't even keep track of how many times I buy yarn. At least once a month and it isn't just one skein. If I've had a drought, I kind of go overboard and make up for lost time. I usually buy my yarn online via some favorite etsy sellers and woolgirl..not to mention all the various sock clubs I'm in. Lastly, with Fall in full swing in many areas, what is the one thing you look forward to most? Watching the leaves change colors.

Still around just not knitting too much. I'm in a bit of a knitting rut. I'm at a stand-still with my clapotis because I'm thinking maybe I need to tink back to the increase rows (and I'm in the midst of the straight rows). I was reading too many posts on the how do you pronounce clapotis? board on rav over the weekend and I got very worried. I don't want to have to purchase a new skein of that baby is on hold for now. My green gable--I had issues with the small size so I recast on for the medium and now I'm having that size is too big for me. :P I've been working on my vintage rose socks with my chuckanut drive yarn but meh..I'm not excited about it. I'm waiting for my needles that I ordered from knitpicks to start work on my lapping waves hat and then maybe the desire to knit will return...although I do have to say that I'm itching to cast on for a pair of mathematical equation socks for my fiance (sans the picot edging of course!). Oh, and there's a certain baby I need to start knitting for. Eek!!! I haven't taken the time out to figure out what to knit for the lil one. For sure I'm going to do a flower bib since finally someone I know is having a girl! And on top of this knitting funk is the ankle business. Can I tell you how annoying it is getting to be to have to see the doctor every single freakin' week??? Ugh. I don't know how much longer I can take of this. :P And not only am I going to see my doctor but I'm also making a second trip (for just might go up to three trips!!) to see the physical therapist. I'm now officially done with the aircast and have been given an ankle brace--you know the one that looks like it's a converse. I was told I could wear it with shoes. HA. If I wanted to stretch my shoes out, maybe. I was also given some prescription strength ibuprofren which I have to take THREE times a day!! Can I tell you that I get drowsy from one 800mg of that stuff and now they want me to take three (600mg each!) in a day?? I get that she wants the swelling to go down but I don't want to have any residual effects from downing so much ibuprofren. :P And then there's work. This whole ankle situation leaves me unable to be the active teacher and dilly dallyer that I am. So it sucks. And I can honestly say that there was a moment of depression on Friday. Call it a revelation if you will. Though Ren might call it my ankle talking (in other words, just plain crazy talk!). I'm currently unhappy with things at work. There. I said it. I love my school, I love what we strive to do but I miss having my own classroom. I miss having that power and that kind of say. With me having been out for so long during such a crucial time in the school year, my new partner had to just kind of do what she's used to when what she's used to is something I know I wouldn't ever do. So I've had to suck it up. We'll see how things go once I become more mobile. I've begun to make peace with the fact that I no longer do much in the classroom and just might take this as an opportunity to go back to school for an additional credential (in reading) but we'll see. I'm still in the thinking phase and should I follow throuh with these plans, I'd like to start in the winter. I'll keep you posted! Fingers crossed for a cheerier post next time.

Question of the Week #2

Question of the Week #2

What ‘cold weather’ project are you looking forward to making the most the autumn?

I'd have to say the lapping waves hat. I saw the pattern while I was shopping for my downstream secret pals for the two swaps I'm in and fell in LOVE with this hat. This is also about the time I start whipping up some fingerless mitts so there might be at least one pair of those as well.

how to know when a spoiler knows you REALLY well

maybe even better than you know your own self!!! I received a HUGE package from my autumn swap pal and words cannot express how close I was to speechlessness when I took a gander at what she sent! So this is an ode to my autumn swap pal spoiler. :) 1. She sends you this in her first package to you: (probably also knowing that this is going to be the first thing you're going to want to open!!And inside...
how she knew I wanted to grow heirlooms next, I'll never know.
2. you also get this: when I pulled these out, the one that said 'salt-free' immediately jumped out at me and I thought...this person knows me good. (I know, I's supposed to read well but well just doesn't have that same emphasis as good does!
I can't wait to try them all out!!
3. She also somehow knew that your chocolate stash was running low and you were in dire need of some dark chocolate and sent you these: Hopefully I'll be able to wait to eat the hershey one because my fiance LOVES blueberries (but he's at work today..)
4. Now typically, I read the card first but that 'next year's garden' was screaming out, "OPEN, OPEN, OPEN!" I was finally able to tear myself away from ogling at my yummy chocolate and find this: and on the inside of the card it said:
She literally sent me snow! I haven't tried it out yet but will soon.
5. She remembered that I'm a beginning cardmaker and sent me this: How she knew I've been needing to get back into my cardmaking, I don't know!
6. And finally, (yes, there's one more thing!!). She sent me some of this: a skein of claudia's handpainted in chocolate cherries. how she knew that I've always wanted this colorway ever since I first saw it, only the universe knows!
7. Ta-da! Here are all my fantastic goodies!! Thank you so much, autumn swap pal!!! I can't wait for my next package from you!

When it rains, it pours and I always love when it pours yarn! :) Today, was the mail day I had been waiting for! My sp12 spoiler revealed herself to me, I received an order from fearless fibers, and I finally got the August Sock Club kit from Robyn's Nest! So first and foremost, thank you so very much, Timiae for spoiling me this sp12 round! Here's most of what was in my final package: Timiae sent me a skein of some kp bare (which was sooooooo unbelievably soft!!), 2 skeins of lorna's laces sheperd sock in argyle which are destined to be socks for my fiance, some Easter eg tabs to dye my bare, and do you see that frame?? She does woodburning and there are calla lilies on that frame! The picture I took earlier didn't do this frame justice so when I get a chance I will post a better pic so everyone can marvel at its beauty. [Here's the pic!] She also sent a button with the instructions for the kitchener stitch (which I couldn't find when I was taking the pic!!). How she knew that I always have to go find my stitch n' bitch book where I have kitchener bookmarked when I have to do the kitchener stitch, I don't know. She's a genius! ;) Thank you soooooooo very much, Timiae!!!! Now, my fearless fiber order, I can only show you one of the skeins because the other one is for a downstream pal in one of the fall swaps I'm doing. I can't remember the name of the colorway but I just remembered (prior to ordering this skein!) that I didn't really have much red or even slightly solid red fingering weight yarn. This could make a lovely shawl (well a small one). We'll see. It's gorgeous and feels like buttah. ;) Now my final package was the August Sock kit from Robyn's Nest. Robyn designed this kit's pattern, and it is so freakin' cool! It is called mathematical equation and the cute part is the colorway for the yarn that comes with the kit is called E=MC(squared). The picture does not do the color of the yarn justice though! Now for some life stuff. Today sucked. Yesterday did too (well, last night). I can't deal with having a sprained ankle for much longer. My fiance suggested I drink an entire bottle of wine last night to numb the pain and sadness I was feeling. I dunno. I just hate that I can't walk around my classroom so much to see what everyone is up to, I can't be outside for very long at drop-off (or even pick-up!) because I can't stand for very long. I'm feeling like I'm not able to really connect with my kids or their parents and it bugs me to no end. I also hate not being able to go up and down the stairs (quickly!) to visit my buddy, our admin. asst!! I miss just leaving the classroom and going to chat with her whenever I feel like it. I can't do that with this bum ankle. :( I'm due for yet another follow-up appt. The doctor I saw on Monday (whom I LOVE!) wants to see me again and she recommended physical therapy for me. I finally got the okay and will be calling to schedule my sessions at some point tomorrow. My ankle is still a bit swollen (yeah, can you believe it???). It's the residual swelling I guess--kind of like those last few lingering pounds one's trying to lose when they're on a diet (not like I'd know anything about that because I have yet to go on a diet!) and they won't disappear! I didn't do much in class today because I had my ankle propped up on a chair. And during lunch-I was sitting on a bunch of pillows knitting away on a new pair of socks! I cast on for the vintage rose socks (again) and so far so good. I'm trying to ignore all the pooling of the yarn, but it's difficult. The pattern is pretty easy and the sock is knitting up quickly! Oh, I finished the celtic cable socks! I love them. Everyone needs to make themselves a pair of anklets. They're fantastic--especially when you have to wear an aircast and have learned that the cast fits better when you're wearing socks! I wore them to work today. It's the first time I've ever worn my handknit socks in public. The foot that can actually still fit a shoe felt a bit snug but it was okay. I'm going to wear my sweetheart socks to school tomorrow. :) Maybe they'll keep me in a good mood!

Falling For Ewe Question of the Week - 9/7/08

Falling For Ewe Question of the Week - 9/7/08

What is your favorite thing about Autumn?

Well, my favorite thing about Autumn is the changing of the leaves and watching the leaves fall from the trees. It wasn't until I was in grad school that I came to fully appreciate Fall--specifically because I finally got to watch leaves fall from trees. Such a pretty sight. I also like that it gets a bit cooler and I can whip out my knitted scarves.

Another weekend stuck at home. Not sure how much longer I can take of this...but it is helping (I think!). Okay, I've finally posted my new fo's on my other blog. Here's a pic I didn't post on my other blog or on ravelry. I cast on for a pair of bellatrix a couple of days ago but didn't like how it was knitting up. I hope to finish up my celtic cable heel socks (here's what the celtic cable heel actually looks like) and possibly focus on my green gable and my clap. Yes, I started working on my green gable again. I cast on for the Medium size this time so hopefully this will fit better than the Small was starting to! I have finally scheduled a follow-up appt. with a worker's comp. doc tomorrow afternoon so we'll see what this doctor says. Apparently this person is going to determine whether or not my injury was work-related. (does that make sense to anyone out there??) I just want to start some physical therapy already. Here's to hoping this person will actually be knowledgeable in the area of sprained ankles. My sister came over yesterday to help me do the laundry. We watched "Daddy's Little Girls" on tv and had Thai take-out for dinner. I leave you with a pic of some yarn I picked up while I was bed-ridden. It's veggie blooms by dk Knits. I got it in a trade with LambyKnits

just a lil note

I made it through the long weekend...and I managed to finish two projects (which will be photographed probably this weekend!). I also re-cast on for my green gable. let's hope I have enough yarn!! The ankle is healing. Now I'm just dealing with all this worker's comp. stuff. Everyone has advice and it's starting to get annoying. I'm also noticing how rude people are when there is a person on crutches walking around (maybe it's just around where I work!!!). Ugh. I actually walked today without my crutch! Though I'm finding that if I have my foot elevated for some time and then I try to get up and walk, I'm in massive pain. I'm hoping I can set up an appt. for a follow-up soon. I've met my future class but tomorrow is our real first day together. Thank goodness it's only a half day! We're going to have one doozy of a class. My partner and I already noticed how cliquey they are yesterday @ the picnic. Sigh..she had no idea what she was signing up for whereas I already knew. They're going to be a challenge but I already know they're gonna have their own special place in my heart by year's end. I've got my matches for the prge swap and the falling for ewe rav swap. I'm also wrapping up sp 12. I have yet to start shopping for my prge downstream pal or my falling for ewe pal! Ack. Better get crack-a-lackin! Be back on the weekend with pictures!!
