looky loo!

Well, my finger is doing a bit better--I started wearing my copper bracelet again and it has been helping. It has also helped to lay off (just a tad!) on the knitting. Although I oughta give myself a longer break but that is so not going to happen! My blackberry cowl is waiting to have buttons sewn on and then I can get a finished pic of it. Here's what my rivolo looks like so far: This is the "close-up" (I know, the pics are essentially the same!). I've surpassed the required 30 repeats. It isn't long enough for me so I'm going to try to get to 40 repeats though I'd like for it to be done already! I'm using some malabrigo sock yarn in rayon vert. I'm hoping to finish it at least by the end of the week so I can block it and show it off. :) One of my coworkers just had a birthday and I spent Friday night rummaging through both yarn and fingerless mitt patterns. Here's what I finally decided on:It's the chevron mitts pattern. I'm using shibui sock and I'm really liking how it's knitting up. No weird pooling at all. I hope she likes them! She's the first person I've knit for outside of my family (not including all the baby stuff I've knit up for others!). I set aside rivolo to get this far on the mitt and now I've set aside the mitt (and it's partner!) to finish up rivolo. She'll understand. She's not even expecting anything. :) I can finally show off pics of my first skein of wollmeise I scored! On the Loopy Groupies board, there is a topic entitled: Wollmeise Virgins and people post who've never tried wollmeise and there are some super nice other people willing to sell off some of their beloved wollmeise! CatReading so graciously offered up some skeins of her wollmeise to me and this is the one I selected, frosch. :) The second installment of the Perfect Day Yarn Sock Club has made its way so I give you, Wake. It also came with a pattern, some lip balm, a stitch marker, and some candy (of course!). And last but not least, some new sock yarn (sheepfeet)I saw up on One Planet Yarn and Fiber.

Hopefully this won't be the last of me as I am hoping to finish up rivolo (and maybe those mitts within the next couple of weeks). I'm super duper behind on blog reading and blog comments so bear with me. I hope I can catch up! :) All right, off to make dinner!

Please Spread the Word

I've been gone a while, I know. Upon completing my cowl (still no decent pics up!) I came to notice that my finger joint on my middle finger was numb! (possibly from the super speed knitting I was doing in trying to complete my cowl! So I didn't knit for about a week. I picked the needles back up again (reluctantly!) over the weekend and cast on for rivolo. :) No pics up yet that are decent enough though. Anyway, the real reason I'm posting is because of a worthy cause. I have recently befriended matahari000 and she filled me on the story of Dylan. Please click on the link to read as it is not my story to tell. Not only is it a huge, gigantic contest to win some yummy yarn, but it's also a chance for us all to give to a good cause and to show Dylan and the rest of his family that there are many, many caring people out in the world. According to PeaceSoup, "If you donate, and then post a link on your blog or website, you will get an extra entry!" So let's spread the word and try to raise as much money as we knitters can before February 7th!

something to share..

I thought I'd be finished with this by now and would have a FO to show off but that wasn't the case. The pattern is blackberry cowl. Sunday night, while I was trying to go to sleep, I thought about how I wanted to make a cowl out of this malabrigo I picked up. It was intended for a baby sweater but I never got around to it. On rav, I saw many cowls made out of malabrigo so I thought I'd set out and finally chooose one to make! I stayed up Monday night checking out cowl patterns. Last night I was trying to narrow down which patterns I wanted to do and once I cast on, I couldn't not finish a few pattern repeats! I'm about halfway done with it. It's a fun knit. I can't wait to complete it and wear it. I just might have enough yardage for another cowl too. :) It was either the blackberry or a cabled one..

home and happy 2009!

Christmas was spent with this little monkey. All the presents are already gone from under the tree because my sister, fiance, and I already went through all of our gifts before my brother and his family got up! Movies were enjoyed. And there was some spooning going on. The fascination with yarn and needles continues for this lil one.We made another trip to the ER (this time the lil munchkin had to come along for the ride). The one thing to hold her attention the longest was my knitter's survival kit! She was allowed use of the pencil, the post-its (which she called stickers), and a notebook. She got her hands on some split ring stitch markers but what she really truly wanted was the coveted tape measure. The trip to the ER was yet another allergic reaction to some new meds that my dad just began to take the night before our visit to the ER. Both my mother and I came home knowing we had caught something from having been in the ER practically all day! And the love of this yarn/sock continued on as well. She kept playing with the yarn whenever she got a chance! I let her try this one on.I finally finished them and have some yarn left so I'm trying to figure out what to make for her with the leftovers but they make her such a girly girl that charcoal gray isn't in her wardrobe! Projects were completed. And lots of yarn arrived while I was away! I didn't take a group shot and I don't want to post them individually because then this will be an even longer blog than I had intended! I can tell you that I received my November Ultimate Sock Club kit from Robyn's Nest and I received the December installment to Sock Yarnista and Stash Menagerie from Three Irish Girls. This is what New Year's Eve day looked like where I was! New Year's Eve was quiet. We made dinner and just watched tv. We watched 'Dan in Real Life' which I really enjoyed and I made my fiance watch it and he liked it too! I completed my first finished object of the year yesterday. It's a utopia hat. My second one. I've started work on a pair of basic mittens too. My fiance has been in need of a new hat and a pair of mittens since he's wearing his hats and his fingerless mitts down to the bone!

a year in review

Here are all my finished objects of 2008. I don't think I completed nearly as much as I did in 2007 but that's okay. I made 7 pairs of socks, 4 washcloths, 1 baby bib, 2 toys, 1 shrug, 1 sweater, 2 ornaments, 4 baby hats, 3 adult ones (one isn't pictured!), 3 scarves/wraps, and some cherries! This year, I'd like to make more socks, more lace, and more clothing.
