on the road again!

Okay, it was barely the first day back at school after the last holiday of the school year and here's how it went: First, I received an email regarding scheduling a phone interview for a teaching position. I emailed right away saying I could do it this Thursday (after school) no problem. Then I missed a phone call regarding a teaching position that I had applied for this past Friday. I googled the school to find a contact number and asked to speak with the person that left me a vm (the asst. principal!). She asked how long I had to talk and I said I had until about 10: 15 (it was 9:50ish) to which she responded with "I hope you talk fast then.." haha. That conversation ended with us deciding that I would go to the school this Friday to do a demo lesson and go through the whole interview process. That was great. THEN, I receive an email from our potential caterer saying that they actually can't do a tasting with us on Wednesday they can only do this Thursday (same time as I had scheduled the phone interview!!) or Monday. I was hoping that we'd have the caterer situation all squared away and taken care of before next week so that I could put in an order for our invitations and get them printed already! As if this wasn't enough, amidst all of this, my teaching partner and I received an email from our Head of School saying that she'd love to have lunch with us today. (Okay, take a breath!) SO, I emailed the caterer and said that we'd love to do this Thursday. I emailed the school wanting to do a phone interview and gave them a vast amount of options for times other than the one I said yes to and let them know that I actually have to do a tasting with my caterer. I hope they understand. My teaching partner and I went to have lunch with our Head of School and we were gone until after dismissal time (2:30ish). We get back to school, and I just happened to check my phone and there was a vm from another school! I didn't call them back until I had left school but it looks like I'll be going to that school on Monday. There's another possibility as well. A different school is waiting to receive my dvd of an old demo lesson and since today was too busy, I couldn't get a moment to mail it out! I already know what I'm going to do for my demo lesson. I already have directions to both schools. I need to make copies of my lesson plan as well as make the necessary copies I'll need for the lesson. Can my life get any crazier?? We told my parents over the weekend about the wedding. They can't wait! I'll be able to do more wedding stuff with my mom this coming weekend since we'll be in town so that'll be good. Hopefully we'll be able to finally register @ Target. My sister finally got a dress. It's a bit wrinkled and it's hard to photograph to get the color but this is it. She's not wearing the necklace with it for the wedding. We haven't decided yet on the shoes either. Though she has the silver shoes on thinking she can wear those. I haven't quite decided yet. The monkey had an eventful time with my fiance in the car..
Here she is waving from the sun roof.
And here, I think I had just missed her shifting gears.
Knitting-wise, I've been chugging away at my wedding shawl. I'm onto the border. I've completed two corners and am on the road to finishing probably this week. Blocking is going to be a chore! I've attempted trying to photograph it but I'm learning that anything red or red-hued doesn't photograph well. :(Here's a close-up of the center panel.
Gosh, it'll be nice to be able to work on different things again. I can't wait to be finished with this and get back to my sister's cardi and some socks!

yarny goodness...and then some!

Okay, I have been working like mad (it seems!) for the last two weeks on getting the center panel of my myrtle leaf shawl done. I finally finished it probably late Monday night. Then I spent part of Tuesday trying to figure out how to do the knitted on border since I've never done one before! I was completely chicken. I scoured the internet, checked out the knitters review forum, the vlt rav group, and what was most helpful was the vlt group. SO, late last night, I took the plunge and I was scared for nothing. But it is going to be a tedious job to finish the border. It's beautiful but it's going to be slow goings. I don't have any pics yet but will try to take a pic tomorrow when the lighting is better. The week of my birthday, I received purchased some yarn
bittersweet in sknitches glisten
brown sugar over buttermilk sundara sock which I've been wanting forever and now I can say it's mine all mine.
Ravelry is bad. Did you know that already? Well, if you did, I'm just reminding you. ;) In some non-knitting news, I leave you with a couple pics from the tea garden that we took last week when we went to look @ it. We're in the midst of selecting a caterer--I'm hoping this one is the one because the one that the ladies @ the tea garden recommended is about a thousand dollars more than we want to spend. AND, the guy freakin' charges per person for a tasting! I'm in talks with two other ones that are much more reasonably priced and the one mentioned above is gonna have us come in for a tasting soon. My 'wedding planner' is way excited. :) I've asked my very good friend @ work (the one who gave me gardenias for my birthday) to be it. She was excited and then she got a lil freaked out. I told her I really truly just need her to yell @ people when things aren't done. She can't wait.

There's been a bit of a lull on the crazy train and I'm feeling like I can speak about what has created this crazy-ville that I currently reside in. But where do I start??? First thing's first. I will be leaving my job at the end of this school year (in about 18 days with the children but a few more without!). There are various reasons for leaving my job but one of the main ones is our desire to move out of Southern California and return to reality in Northern California. I've been wanting to be closer to my folks and that monkey of a niece for a while now and we're finally going to do something about it. (bad timing with the economy and all but it's definitely time to move on). Things at school are unbelievable and unreal. Hence the reason to return to reality. I've had enough of bulldozing parents and watching parents who donate a lot of money to our school get preferential treatment. That isn't normal. I also miss feeling as though I'm actually making a difference in the lives of our future. There's no way that's going to happen where I am right now. So this experiment in venturing out to see what life is like in a private independent school is over and may not be revisited again! I am getting married this summer! Hence the reason for that wedding shawl project that some of you may have seen on my rav page. We are getting married July 26th. I've got a dress, we have a venue, and now it's just everything else--caterer/cake/linens/invitations/etc. We will be getting married here. Everything is slowly coming together though I wish I had devoted more of last month to wedding stuff but I digress. We have a potential photographer, I have someone for the flowers, and we already have someone for the entertainment. So I'm trying not to be stressed. It's the little things that are going to get me though. Like finding a tailor and purchasing the corset (ha!) that'll go beneath my wedding dress. Now if only I could lose just a little weight between now and then.. Let's see...I've covered leaving my job, moving, and getting married..there's still a bit more on my plate. With the impending move, I have been job searching like mad for both a summer job and a job for the school year. I'm still looking though it's been a chore to search for a job in the bay area from here. There have been a couple of trips up North for some job fairs but so far, nothing has panned out. I do have an interview next week for a potential summer job though. :) So keep your fingers crossed that things fall into place when I need them to! Amidst all of my own personal crazy, my fiance's mother was diagnosed with cancer around Easter. She's finished her first round of chemo and I think things are okay for now. I don't know all the details Her husband took her on a cruise for Mother's Day so they've been enjoying life in Alaska for the past week. It's been tough. I think that's why April just sort of came and went. And then it was my birthday. There's been knitting but I've only been focusing on ONE project. Next post will be a knitting post, I promise. Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Happy Birthday To Me!

My birthday began with a lil party @ school. It was the second week in a row we had a teacher birthday party in my class! My teaching partner's bday is the week before mine. For some reason, this group of parents would much rather have celebrations before school begins-which makes life hell for us but whatever. We are a no sugar school so rather than have fruit and other naturally sweetened stuff (like cakes made with fruit juice or what have you) I got bagels. I had a bagel 'cake' if you will and that's it. UGH. I cannot stand the sight of bagels anymore. I don't even like saying or typing the word--that's how much I've had it with bagels. I've had a school year chock full of TOO many bagels. I received a couple of individual gifts from some of the children. The best gift was Wendy's Sock book: Oh my gosh! I don't know how my student knew I had been wanting that book and I even told her how I had been wanting it. She said she just knew she should get it for me. :) I also received a beautiful basket full of yarn that I wouldn't necessarily use and some pattern books: My sister sent flowers that are in the colors of the flowers I want for the wedding. I also received a gardenia plant from my friend at work. We (my sister, fiance, and I) had dinner @ Cha Cha Cha. Usually we do Mexican for my birthday but this year I wasn't in the mood for it. Typically I know where I want to go for my birthday dinner too and this year, it just kind of snuck up on me. The cake my sister got this year was fantastical!! It was a tiramisu cake. My sister asked if I wanted to have that cake every year and then she realized we won't be here next year which will be weird. I also finally got my 'big' present. :) I can't wait to try it out! After dinner and cake, I think I went to bed. I was sooooooooooo exhausted.
