and we're off!

We are leaving again for a few days. I have an interview tomorrow and tomorrow is also my mom's birthday! My brother has since moved out of my parents' house (rather abruptly too!) and it dawned on me the other day that there isn't any internet at my parents' house anymore! He just left on Tuesday of this week. Of all times to move out, he does it abruptly and before my mom's birthday! We'll see how that goes. My second skein of rosewood arrived from sniggle yesterday. Thank goodness! I had said to my fiance late last night that had it not arrived yesterday, we would've been waiting for it to get here today before leaving. He told me that he knew that already. Sigh..I'm becoming predictable already! I'm on the last row of chart D and then I'm practically home free. I had him wind the new skein for me last night and he kept petting it--I knew he wanted something made for him out of what was left so I'm on the lookout for a fingerless mitt/glove pattern for him. He wants something that is a cinch to knit. I may go with another pair of fetching, dashing, or some irish hiking warmers. We'll see what I'm in the mood for. ;) I leave you with a very bright (but quite difficult to photograph!) picture of my diamond fantasy shawl thus far. While waiting on my yarn to get here to finish up ishbel, I had an itch to do some more lace. Since I've been going through my stash in the attempt to purge before we move, I reconnected with my skein of frisky which was one of the first skeins I purchased when I got on the handpainted yarn kick. When I first purchased it, I had it earmarked for a diamond fantasy shawl and after a few attempts, I just wasn't focused enough to complete one without any mistakes. As I'm revisiting the pattern, I can see how I got so mixed up the first few times around. I was quite an ambitious knitter back then! Here's to hoping I finish it this time! :)

first day of summer vacation

I spent my first day of my summer vacation cleaning out the garage and making room for some of the stuff I brought home from school last week. I'm pretty much done but there's a lot of paperwork I have to go through. I attempted to purge from my teaching supplies but that wasn't happening. I found some books that I can give to the lil monkey and that's better than nothing. Maybe when the time comes for us to actually be in the process of moving, things might be different. My living room is a mess. I brought up all these empty boxes and a suitcase (not to mention the books I plan to give my niece!). I've been purging from my stash though. Stay tuned for more! On the job front, I went for an interview last Monday and didn't hear back yet so I'm guessing that was a no. I have an interview this coming Friday so back up to the bay area we go. Can't someone just hire me already?? We're going to stay up there for a few days because I don't think we're going to get up there before the wedding! Gosh, I miss the summer. It's the only time I can blog in peace!

wedding checklist!

Place to get my hair done, Check! Here I am checking to see how well my hair has held up after an afternoon of it being fixed. On my shoulder is my ishbel too! I'm thinking I need to go for a style with a bit more body but we'll see. Invitations mailed, Check! Wedding Registration complete, Check! I'm still working on the flowers, wedding and shower favors, getting my hands on a corset I actually like and I think that's it.

the end

Today was my last day at my old school, ever. I was the first one there and the last one to leave. As I approached the front gate, I thought, "This is the last time I'll use these keys to get into the school." When I approached our front door, I thought the same thing. I'm not sad about leaving but I will miss a lot of my coworkers tremendously. I am going to miss our weekly whole school assemblies and I've been told that I better visit. I received lots of well wishes for all of my impending changes too. And as for how am I feeling? The excitement finally hit when I was unloading my fiance's car with the last of my things that I had at school and carrying it all into the garage. I'm getting married. We're moving! My life is going to continue to snowball and one day, I hope things will slow down to a more manageable pace again! In a week, it'll be one month until my wedding day! There are still some final details that I'm working on but there isn't much left. I put in a deposit for our wedding cake today. I have a hair consultation tomorrow. My sister sent the shower evites. The wedding invitations will go out tomorrow (finally!). I need to figure out what songs my sister needs to dl onto her ipod. I also need to figure out where we're getting both the wedding favors and shower favors. There's been some knitting amidst all of this though. Remember how much I loved my rosewood? Well, it has turned into this:I'm mere rows away from completion but I'm out of yarn!! The lovely sniggle has so graciously offered to trade her skein of rosewood for something out of my stash. I can't wait for it to get here!! I suppose while I wait for its arrival I could work on my sister's something blue but we'll see.

cupcake tasting!

Gosh, I wish someone would've told me what I should look for when I'm cake tasting! We hit a couple of bakeshops today to check out their wares. There are only a handful that I'm in interested in. For dinner this evening, I have been dining on cupcakes. lol. The two that are competing against each other are hotcakes and kiss my bundt. I'm sampling carrot cake, lemon, and strawberry--the only two flavors they had in common. I could've done red velvet but I'm not feeling the red velvet this year. The baby bundts are much denser but they're also lighter in flavor. So far, the strawberry baby bundt is my absolute favorite. Below are my bundts. :)I can't have anymore tonight though. ha. I'm finding that my samples from hotcakes aren't as moist as the bundts are. Here are the hotcake cupcakes: This was our free cupcake from hotcakes--and it was one of the better ones from that batch! In a way I'd love to have mini-bundts at my wedding but we'll see. We're doing another tasting Wednesday evening. Going into this, I knew that kiss my bundt would be up there but I'm thinking that the place we will be going to on Wednesday to pick up our to-go consultation will beat out the other two. I still need to figure out where I'm getting my hair done and if I'm getting a new pair of shoes..along with other minor details like mailing out the invitations!

i made it back in one piece!

2 demo lessons, and 2 quick interviews later and I'm back in Los Angeles. Can someone press the pause button for me?? The first demo lesson that I had went really well. I'm not quite sure I knocked the socks off of the administrative team that I interviewed with but I think I knocked everyone else's socks off! The quick interview I had scheduled that same day was just 'meh.' The set up of the school was strange to me. Plus I didn't like the idea that I wouldn't have my own classroom. I would just have a cart and would be going from classroom to classroom. No thanks. The next place that I went to do a demo lesson was SUPER foggy. I had no idea that city was like that. That was the first turn-off. The school was gorgeous and the bulletin boards outside each classroom was phenomenal. The children were like pod people though. I'm used to one or two children calling out when I pose a question. I'm not quite used to EVERYONE raising their hand and not one person calling out. It was weird. The whole place was just weird to me. There was something about it that didn't sit well with me. On our way home from that last interview (and I mean home to my parents' house), I remembered that I had a vm waiting to be heard. I listened to it, and it was a school that had an opening and they wanted to know when I'd be up in the bay area so that I could go interview. I called that school back and let them know I was in town and we literally flew to their school which was a good 45 or so min. away from where we were! I get there, interview, get a tour of the school, and then I'm offered the position. I didn't like the numbers. I also didn't want to just take it because it was the first offer. I kind of wanted to wait to see what was going to happen with the two schools I did demo lessons. I didn't hear a peep back from the first school (unfortunately!) so I'm guessing they aren't offering me their position. I heard back from the pod people school and they offered it to someone else and I heard from the school where I'd have to go from classroom to classroom. I had the school that offered me their position wait a bit and I guess I had them wait too long. I think they went with another candidate. But looking back, I didn't want to just take it because I'm in need of a job. I don't want just any job. I've got an interview on Monday so I'm off to my parents' again this Sunday. I have a phone interview tomorrow for a summer school position. I also have a few other leads so we'll see what happens. Today was our last day of school. It was kind of surreal. I can't believe I won't be seeing any of the children at my school again. I can at least say that I'm leaving on a positive note. I'd like to think that if I ever decided to come back to Los Angeles, I'd have a position there--if they had any openings.

actual knitting content!

I finished knitting my wedding shawl! I have to wait to block it though because I want to make sure I have the time to devote to the blocking process. I'll post pictures soon. I can't tell you how nice it was to finally be done with this! It was the only thing I worked on because I wanted to make sure I completed it in time. I can't wait to cast on for something new. Even though I've got socks in need of my attention! I received another installment from Three Irish Girls. Sharon is a genius. I really want to make something with the rosewood! It's gorgeous.
