Well, today was my model lesson at the school in the Valley and it only went okay. It's my own fault because I didn't come completely prepared to do a 45 min. lesson. I was under the impression that it was only going to be a half hour. I could've put more into it but you know what? I didn't make the time to put more into it. I was busy with my current job (yes, my part-time job!). I sat down with the principal and she told me that she was disappointed. She expected more out of me. Kinda hard to give someone more when you're not really sure what would be an appropriate 45 min. lesson. I thought of other things to do with them but I have to tell you, I'm not used to doing a model lesson in a room where there are...7 other adults watching!! Yes, 7. There was the teacher who is going to be the co-teacher, the principal, the head of school, the current teachers in the class, and two other people who I have no idea who they were. One of them introduced herself to me. I think if I had known what I was walking into in advance, I could've done a better job. Oh well. I've been going back and forth with the idea of moving to the Valley. Could I really leave the nice cool breeze I get here on the Westside for the hot smoggy valley? Who knows.
So, to lick my wounds, I went to Stitch Cafe. :) I figured some yarn therapy was necessary. It's a cute lil shop. I met Megan who I think is the co-owner? I'm not sure. Oh, there was so much yarn! They had noro, manos, malabrigo, their own hand-dyed stuff, rowan, cascade, etc. Here's what I came away with: My first purchase of some manos (ever!). The colorway is...118 mulled wine. I was thinking the my so-called scarf but we'll see what I end up making. I really liked the malabrigo as well but couldn't pick out a color!
Traffic was awful coming back 'over the hill' (another good reason why I shouldn't work in the Valley and live on the Westside). I decided to swing by Yarns Unlimited before heading home because I still wasn't feeling any better. :P That didn't help much but I learned that she now carries Sugar and Cream yarn there so that's nice to know.
This picture is of what I made for dinner last night. I got the recipe from Ruth who got it from here. :) The recipe calls for chicken wings. I had to use chicken tenderloins because my sister said we couldn't fit anymore stuff in our freezer. I thought it came out all right. I will definitely be making this dish again but with wings!! Okay, I need to go eat. Food always makes me feel better. :) Thanks for listening!

goodies!

When I got home from work (about an hour ago-we had a staff meeting), a box was waiting for me outside my screen door. This is what I found inside my box. And here's what all those goodies turned out to be, unwrapped. :)First of all, I received this better than awesome package from jenn. I absolutely love everything that she picked out for me. :)
First of all, the background for all of the pics are pieces of really cool paper she picked out for me for cardmaking. In the last pic, you can see the other side of the papers which I didn't even notice until after I finished taking pics of everything! Okay, first is my favorite of all, the handmade book she made for me with goldfish/koi all over. I adore it. :) I haven't a clue yet as to what I'm going to put in it but I know that it should be something very special. Next up, is this really cool Icelandic tweed yarn, yummy ginger goodies-chews and ginger spread. I had no idea there was a ginger spread. I can't wait to try it!! I also received some lavender foam bath, some kiss my face soap, and lastly a bar of dark chocolate with berries and vanilla. Yum!! I'm so glad that I met Jenn. She definitely spoiled me to no end and I am extremely grateful. So grateful that words can't even express how giddy I feel!

So I guess I have no life. I wonder how they came up with this specific list of movies. Some of the movies I saw, I didn't want to see but saw them on video with others. Some of the other movies were on HBO/Showtime or some other movie channel. Plus, I've been watching movies since I was at least 6 years old. The first movie I ever saw in the movie theatre was "Raiders of the Lost Ark." I remember thinking that I was going to be crushed by that gigantic boulder along with Indy. I have no shame. I know I've watched way more than 124 movies and I don't care. It isn't that I have no life. I just like movies.

lace and San Diego

Remember this? Well, I noticed over the weekend, (while knitting in actual daylight.) that the first few inches were the rs and the rest of my work was the ws!! So somewhere along the way, I goofed up. I also counted my stitches (what a novel idea!) that I was working with, and had 39 stitches instead of oh, 58! :P I started to rip back, then got a knot, and this is what's left of my screwed up project: I tried starting it over on Saturday but no one ever told me how difficult it was to count cast-on stitches in a moving car. Plus, most people just leave me to knit while in the car instead of forcing me to participate in an actual conversation. I tried to cast on at least two or three times and then decided to just give up. I recasted (is that a word??) on yesterday and here's what I've got so far. This is so much better. There are actual columns for where the travelling vines are. My sister and I decided (spur of the moment) to drive down to Windanseaville more popularly known to others as San Diego. By the way, this was my sister's first visit to San Diego, ever. I thought about letting windansea know but I had remembered reading in her blog that she was going to be suffering from bleacher butt so I didn't even bother. :( Next time.
It was a gorgeous day. We went to La Mesa Village for breakfast. I can't remember the name of the place but they used to have this huge apple nut waffle. Now they have apple nut french toast. On the same street was a bead shop!! I've been to this lil street before because my friend used to live in La Mesa not too far from where we ate but I had never seen a bead shop before. I remembered going into the lys (which I didn't go into this time around!) but not the bead shop. Oh, how I wish I had had cash with me! She sells beads individually. Normally the places I've been sell them in packages or in bulk. She had some cute ones too. I have decided when I go down to San Diego again, I will go to the bead shop prepared. :)
The highlight (for me) of our day in San Diego was probably going into Coronado. I had never been there before and my friend has lived in San Diego as long as I have lived in LA and he had never taken me there (or even suggested it for that matter!) until that day. They have got to have the most beautiful beaches in Coronado.

I found so many shells (sorry no pics of them!) and we even came across some sand dollars. And would you get a look at that sand! We were amazed even by the sand. It had flecks of what looked to be gold glitter and what I thought might be black sand. The sand was of a finer grade too. Our feet didn't sink into it as we walked. It was so perfect, picturesque, and peaceful in Coronado. We will definitely be making more trips out there.

Our last stop was Balboa Park. There was an Annie Liebovitz exhibit. We didn't go though because we didn't want to pay the $10 or $11 per persion to get in. We just went into the gift shop and my sister leafed through the book they had of a collection of her photographs. We just walked around as my sister took in the sights and the amazing architecture.

Just popped on to say it's done. :) I had intended on completing it last night but I was working on progress reports. Can you imagine having to do progress reports for 9 children in one night? I still have 6 more to do. :P Anyone want to do them for me? lol.

what have I gone and done??

I've joined the International Scarf Exchange, that's what I've gone and done! lol. I didn't know if I'd be able to participate so I didn't sign up for it when I first found out about it (which was a few days ago) and then I slept on it..and I decided that now is a better time than any other to be joining all these swaps and exchanges that I've joined because who knows how busy I'll be come next year when I plan to be back in the classroom. So I'm taking advantage of my 'free' time right now. :) For anyone reading this, there are still some spaces left. The number of participants, last I heard, was in the 160s and if you follow the blog, Sharon, has said she's keeping sign-ups open until or until we hit 200. So sign up already if you haven't yet! ;) I don't know yet what pattern I'd like to try but I do know I want to do something different. I just might do something lacey. I think I'm starting to develop a lace addiction!
In the days that I have been away, I have made too, too many knitting-related purchases. See for yourself...
and I even ordered (for the first time ever) patterns that I actually had to pay for! I ordered green gable and wicked from Zephyr Style. I had been thinking about those two patterns off and on and decided to just take the plunge..which just might be a bad thing because now that I'm no longer a paid pattern virgin, who knows what I'll order next! I think I'm done for the time being unless I see something else. Now I just need to purchase some yarn!
I've had the Knitting w/o Tears book in my amazon wish list for a while and since I don't mind used books @ all (as long as they're at least very good!), I ordered it along with EZ's Knitter's Almanac. The push to get the Almanac came from here. I had never seen the February sweater before until I saw a completed version on A Knitter in Queens' blog.
In actual knitting news, I've decided that I want to complete my traveling vines scarf (ya think?) so I'm going to put thermal aside and focus most of my time and energy on completing my traveling vines scarf. Only 12 more pattern repeats before blocking! That isn't too bad, right? I'm going to attempt to get in at least 2 pattern repeats tonight and I have all of tomorrow to work on it as well. :) I also casted on for the lacy diamonds cloth from the mdc group. If you click on the pic on that page to make it bigger, you can see the detail of the cloth. It's freakin' cool. I had to frog a few rows earlier because I had lost a few stitches but I'm back on track and will probably finish it tonight (at least, that's the plan!). I shall be back on here tomorrow. :)
