spoiled again!

Well, I just got home a lil while ago and in the mailbox were some stitchmarkers I had been waiting on, an envelope from Sarah :), and a package from my sp!!!!! :)I don't know how I'm going to get used to life without packages again! lol. First the stitch markers! This set is from Danielle. I love the iridescence of the beads! They're so cool! Thank you, Danielle!!!!
This set comes from Lainie. I love these too!!!! :) Great color! Thanks, Lainie!!!!!
Now, before I go into my package from my sp, I've gotta tell you what Sarah sent me! :) She sent me a letter to join a sock exchange. I have to tell you that initially, I thought I would have to knit a pair of socks to be sent out and I was ready to email Sarah and say,"Yeah, right." Then I reread the letter and nowhere does it say anything about having to knit a pair of socks! So, I'm in Sarah!! But I don't know of 6 other people who would like to participate so I'm putting it out there for my readers (however few of you there are!).
If you would like to participate in said sock exchange (the funky sock exchange!) please click on my email me link on my sidebar and email me your address so I can send you the letter Sarah sent me. The way it works is, there are two names on the letter. You send a pair of socks to the first person, move #2 up, put yourself in the #2 position and mail 6 copies of the letter (and be sure to send them blank copies of the letter too!) and in the end you end up with 36 pairs of socks (that you didn't even have to knit or buy!) So who wants in?
Well, I did a bit of research on this funky sock exchange and nobody seems to have received all 36 there are people saying that the only person that ever gets all 36 is the person who is in the #1 position. Sarah, we are going to have to create our own funky sock exchange just amongst our online knitter friends. lol. Let me know what you think. :) And now onto my goodies. :)
Here is all is wrapped up--with a package of red carnations!!!!!!!!! I wonder if they'll grow indoors. I'm going to have to try it out. I've been in the gardening mood too. I picked up a couple of mini-garden kits not too long ago. I guess it's time to start planting! :)
And here are all my goodies unwrapped. I couldn't get much closer. But from left to right, we have a really cool terra cotta flower pot that contains a bread mix!!!! I can't wait to try it out!
Next to my cute ready to bake bread in a flower pot is the infamous sushi wallet. I giggled when I saw it because I had been wanting one of these and most recently, Robyn, posted briefly about these kits! lol. I didn't know that I get to choose which one I want to make! I can't wait..that just might be my next project! And those red fishies??? They have got to be the cutest and coolest thing ever!! They are goldfish-shaped ice cubes!! :) I can't wait til they freeze up. I'm going to put one in my fiance's cup when he gets home and see if he freaks out! lol. See that duck? It's a pirate duck!!! Also super adorable and smells really nice. :) And to top off my package, in front of my flower pot, is a tube of kiehl's lip balm #1, the one and only lip balm that I use. :) Thank you so very much for the awesome package, sp!!!

as promised!

Here she is, all finished! There's another picture here. All that is left is to wash her. I'm so glad to be done with this scarf. Towards the end, I was starting to tire of all the cables!!
This is a current wip. It's going to be a log cabin bib for my niece. I realized last weekend that I could knit up some bibs for her and her parents would use them (@ least they better!). I'm going to try to knit up three so we'll see. The other one will probably be a ninepatch one.
Here's thermal so far. I'll be able to work on her some more over the weekend-I think. I want to get my traveling vines scarf out of the way. I'm trying to clear off my couch for when our potential company gets here next weekend (should they actually get here!).
Here's some atacama I picked up from knit happens. I don't have a project in mind at all. I just liked the colorway and I haven't knit anything up in a gray.
Here's some lace-weight yarn I picked up from black bunny fibers. It's so, so pretty!!! I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it but I just love the colors!

really quick

Just wanted to come on to announce that persephone is done. I also have begun work on some MD bibs for my niece! :) I'll post pics of persephone tomorrow-the lighting right now will not do it any justice. I have started working on the back for my thermal! I noticed that I'm going to have to do some w&t's so there's been a halt on the knitting. Now that persephone is complete, I want to get my traveling vines scarf done (since it's nearly finished!!) and then I can just work on thermal and nothing else (we'll see how long that lasts!). It's already starting to warm up here and I might not get a chance to wear it once completed (unless I don't finish it till say, fall!!). I picked up some more yummy yarn in the mail in the last couple of days and will be posting pics of everything tomorrow!

another good mail day!

I placed an order with white oak studio a few days ago and my yarn arrived today! :) The colourway is "Sex and The City". The shop is new so you get a free stitch marker with each purchase. Also, since I am doing SP10, you can also get a free sock pattern to go with the socks. I chose rococo and will one day make this pattern, really!
Here's a close-up of the yarn I bought. :) I can't wind it because I know the minute I wind it I'm going to want to knit with it. So all of the recent yarn I have either received or purchased are still in skeins. It's better that way.
And lastly, I got this very cool bracelet which I have on right now. Thanks, AR! :) I absolutely love, love, love it! It's the coolest thing ever. :) Please tell Lil' AR that she was right! ;)

Blogger is being a butt It's cooperating today!

Seriously!! I came on specifically to share with you the awesome package Elspeth sent me, and I can't upload any pics right now. It won't tell me why either. I thought I'd outsmart blogger by trying to upload via picasa but no dice. :( In any case, thank you sooooooooooooooo very much for the goodies, Elspeth and hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to show off what you sent me! ;)
I'm back and Blogger is being itself today. :) Yay!!!!!!!!!
So here's what I got from Elspeth yesterday. Isn't it a cute bag? The bag alone was enough and then I thought to open it... I think if I hadn't thought to open it, I wouldn't have known what else was in the bag! She sent me a ball of madil (in a lovely shade of blue), some gedifra donatella in a a lovely gray, and some irish linen in a nice green. :) I also received two cds, some stationery, a cute lil mini-notepad with a sheep on the cover and these lovely stitch markers. Thanks again, Elspeth!

more stitch markers...are you sick of them yet??

Well, I'm sort of on a knitting break. I'm officially (should I continue to be on this break!) behind by two pattern repeats on persephone as of today. I can tell you that I probably won't even touch it tonight so yeah, two pattern repeats behind..which will put me behind schedule. I just needed a break from the routine. I don't think I'm going to knit anything tonight. I have many letters that need responding too..and many beads to put away plus I'm tired! Not only did I receive Crissy's wonderful package in the mail today but I also received my order from Fire Mountain Gems. Packages can brighten up any day if you ask me. ;) Going out tomorrow are this set of stitch markers . Looking for a pic? Tricked ya! I realized that I can't post a pic of them just yet because the receiver of these stitch markers, Danielle, sometimes reads my blog. So everyone's going to have to wait. Sorry..hopefully it won't be too long.

an early bday gift and some stitch markers!

I participated in the get stitchy stitch marker exchange and I have to say that I got one of the coolest partners. :) Not only is she a sweetheart with a great sense of humor, but she also has a big heart. :) My partner was Crissy. And this is what I received in the mail when I got home from work!
This is the entire package, minus the very nice bday card she sent me. :) Oh, and everything is posing on top a very large cloth grocery bag from Super Bear Supermarket. I love it!! I can't wait to use it!
Here are my stitch markers and a row counter (which she's going to have to tell me how to use! lol). Do you see the cute lil birdies??? I had commented to her about how cool I thought they were because I had seen them in her shop and she surprised me with some of my very own. :)
On top of all of that, she also sent me some yarn!!! Above is a skein of tofutsie sock yarn (which I had actually been curious about!) See sp, you're not the only one trying to make me into a reformed sockknitter. ;)
And this, this is Alaskan hand-dyed yarn!! It comes from Raven Frog Fiber Arts based in Sitka..not sure if there's a website because there isn't one listed on the label. The colorway is Kelp Bed and it's 50% Silk, 50% Merino. Sigh...
Thank you, from the tips of my toes for this wonderful package, Crissy. :) It's not even my birthday yet and I'm already getting spoiled! A girl could get used to this. lol.

where do I even begin??

Hm, good question!! I guess I'll start with these shots:

These two skeins of cascade 220 will eventually become this. I remembered that I hadn't posted any shots of my swift in action! Since I was the only one home on Friday, I couldn't take a pic of the swift and ball winder in action. So, you'll just have to make do with seeing the swift in action and imagine that the yarn is really being wound into cakes. I really love these shots! And ta-da, we have yarn cakes. :) I received these lovely personalized stitchmarkers from Robyn for the stitch marker exchange she hosted. :) She's got another one planned and sign-ups begin May 1st!!!
Here, we have persephone progress. Here's what the scarf looks like right now with just a bit more than half completed. I've been working on it diligently every single day. It has taken me eighteen days to get to more than half so I'm hoping to be done with it in ideally a couple more weeks..and then I can cast on for something new!!!!!!
Here is a better shot of the cable detail in the pattern. Gorgeous! I've been toying with the idea of making a set of fingerless gloves to go with the scarf but we'll see. I think I'll have enough yarn leftover. Right now I'm on cake #3 and one cake knits up at least twelve-thirteen inches so I know I'll need at least 5 cakes and I purchased 6 skeins of yarn. I guess I'll figure it out once I get there.
Lastly, we have the early beginnings of a sleeve for my thermal. I'm at about twelve and a half inches with the body and I'm still trying to get to fifteen!! So, I thought I'd start the sleeve. That twisted rib is the bain of my existence. lol. I'm nearly through with it though and will be able to start the waffle stitch part of the sleeve. I'm still hoping to get to wear it once I finish it so we'll just have to see!

stitch marker swaps

Well, I have received word that two of the three people I sent stitchmarkers to for the get stitchy stitch marker exchange and for the stitch marker exchange have received their stitch markers. :) So now I can show you what I sent them!
Robyn received this set pictured above. And Crissy received this set (though one is missing from the pic!!)
Both of them love their stitchmarkers. Yay!!!!!!!! I can't wait for mine to get here!

in better spirits

I've been meaning to post ever since I got back from my parents' house but I just wasn't in the right mood! Yesterday marked the end of my weird mood though because today I'm feeling normal again. Yay! It helps that today is technically my Friday and will remain that way for the time being. :)
My poor little niece was sick while we were home for Easter. She wasn't being very photogenic. Don't believe me?
The poor thing even looks sick in these pics! I'm not sure what she had but she was taking two different types of medicine-and one was amoxicillin so I'm guessing she had an ear infection or something. She didn't really have an appetite, she couldn't breathe through her lil nose, she was yelling every chance she got, and of course she was tired and cranky! I was her babysitter Saturday night which is when she really didn't have an appetite so I had to just rock her to sleep with a pacifier in her mouth! Even though she hardly ate Saturday night, she was actually getting better because she wasn't so cranky. She was really good with me-until she had to go back to her parents!!
She went to Easter Mass with us the next morning and unfortunately, we have no pics of this lil munchkin in her Easter outfit. She was freakin' adorable!! :)
As for my sister's knitting lesson, ay yi yi. We had a quick lesson Saturday afternoon before she left for her concert. She went to see The Killers and the Howling Bells. Let's just say, my sister was only able to cast on after our brief lesson. We haven't reconvened for any follow-up lessons because she's a workaholic, remember?? I think she's all but forgotten how to do any kind of knitting whatsoever. It was funny to see the light in her eyes when she saw that she was getting it. She enjoyed casting on and said she'd probably do that for the rest of her life! lol. She had felt a numbness in her arm (the one she writes with no less) and found out that she has tennis elbow. She has to wear a brace and was given meds. It's apparently work-related since she's in front of a computer screen all day long. Poor thing. How will she learn to knit if she's already got a knitting-related ailment?? Sigh...
I realized yesterday that I am burnt out on work. It's that time of year again. And I'm not alone. One my coworkers was saying that she was burnt out and I seconded (is that even a word??) her comment. :P And there's no end for us! We do a summer session with our clients. Another reason why I need a full-time teaching position again!
Speaking of which, I decided last night (whilst I couldn't get back to sleep in a timely fashon) that I know what I want to study when I go back to school. I had been thinking of going back for my reading and language arts specialist credential but now I think I might go for my resource specialist credential. I've looking into what schools offer courses in that and there aren't many here in SoCal. I've emailed two of the schools for more info so we'll see what happens. A reading specialist would only deal with reading issues whereas a resource specialist would work with students in Special Education, or had IEPs. I think what led me to this decision is my work at the Kelter Center. I really like what I do. I like working one-on-one with the students and I like getting feedback on how much they've improved since we first started working together. It's inspiring.
As for knitting news, I finished my so-called scarf. It's been a slow year. I haven't completed many projects! :( I'm still chugging along on thermal. I'm up to 12 inches of the body. I need just three more inches before I start the neck placket. I decided to cast on for one of the sleeves too! I haven't touched my traveling vines scarf but I think I won't have to do 30 pattern repeats after all. It might be more like 25 if I'm lucky. :) I'm up to 21. :] Yay!! Persephone is coming along nicely though I've made a few mistakes and didn't catch them till way after the fact. :P Ariel is now up over on Marie's blog but it just doesn't compare to Persephone! I think if Ariel came before Persephone, I'd feel differently.
I am nearly halfway through with Persephone. No pics though. Maybe once I've gotten further along on thermal!
I am itching to cast on for something new and it's so hard to fight the urge!! I got my yarn for swell. I ordered cascade 220 (in brown and natural) and I am in love with how this yarn feels!
Oh, before I forget! I've started my very own flickr account! So if you've got an account, please add me! I've only got two contacts. :( My sn is goldfishlover. :)

In case you're wondering...

where I am and why I haven't responded to your email/commented on your blog, I will be hangin' out with this lil munchkin until Sunday. :)

something I forgot!

A month from today, I will be turning 32 years old. (Yeah, I'm really that old!) lol. I'm actually excited about it and unlike last year, I want to get together with a bunch of people instead of having a quiet bday..anyone coming to LA a month from now?? lol.

knitterly progress

I thought that some inquiring minds would want to see how things were going with the projects I've been working on as of late. I didn't snap any photos of thermal because, it hasn't grown that much since you last saw it! Here, before you, is my so-called scarf thus far. It is almost complete. I hope it get it done if not tonight at least by the time I get back from visiting my family!
Persephone is growing and turning into a magnificent thing, don't you agree? I've finally found my goove with her. I switched over to using circs and it's much easier. I went back up to size 5s too. The pattern is coming out so nicely! I kinda want to keep it for myself! :O
And last but not least, we have my traveling vines scarf. I am one pattern repeat from finishing-if I stuck with the pattern. I want to make it longer and I think I am going to go for maybe 10 more pattern repeats. It's gorgeous. Even unblocked I think it's beautiful. I can't imagine how it'll look once completed and blocked!
I leave you with this, a close up of the pattern stitch in my traveling vines scarf. :)

my favorite knit and then some!

would have to be this...from here. I wear it everywhere and bring it everytime I go out if I know I'm going to gone into the evening. It keeps my poor sensitive to the cold ears warm! I don't even care if it doesn't match with whatever I'm wearing, I still wear the thing. I've been wanting to make one for my fiance, but am not sure what colors I'm going to use. I have a full skein leftover from this but can't decide on what solid color will complement it. I've got skeins leftover from these projects as well. I will probably end up making him this instead with the two leftover skeins from those two projects but I'm not too sure I want to go with a blue/green color scheme. What do you guys things? I like the brown and off-white used in the pattern and honestly, those are my fiance's colors. He's very into the neutrals. We'll see. I kind of want to cast on for this hat now but I know I should wait.

stitch markers galore!

I worked on these on Monday, after finding out that I didn't have to go in to work that day. :)
I worked on all of these today.

I mailed off a set of stitch markers today. Tomorrow I will finally be mailing off my first package to my sp and another set of stitch markers will go out (hopefully!). I will still have one more set that I need to send off but I need to figure out if I'm going to make them a different set or pick from the sets I've made in the last two days to send out to her. Decisions, decisions.
I've been knitting a bit here and there but not as much as I should be with all these free time on my hands. No. Instead, I'm sitting right here in front of the computer, keeping up on blogs, looking @ yarn, etc.
Oh, I did get this in the mail yesterday for my sp. :)I wasn't expecting such a blue explosion. I hope she likes it. It is Colinette Jitterbug color Jewel. It's going to go in either her second or final package from me. :) I'm still waiting on some of the books I ordered from Amazon to get here as well.
You know that snap preview feature-the one that is on some blogs and when you drag your cursor over a link it provides a preview to the link? I signed up for it! Here, I thought it was only available to people who had typepad or wordpress but I was mistaken. Someone on blogger had it so I clicked on their link and voila. :) It's the little things that bring joy, you know? ;)

great news!

So I just had to share that I don't have to go to work today (or Wednesday for that matter!)! :) My one client that I was supposed to see today (movie star girl) won't be back from her vacation until next Monday. :) I'm so glad. Now I don't have to feel guilty about sitting in front of the computer for most of the day (to catch up on blogs I haven't commented on!)! I can get all my packages together that need to go out, finish the stitchmarkers I started last week (and start some new ones!) and work on some letters. :) I was a good knitter last night and knitted on every single one of my current pressing projects. I think I'm going to be done with my so-called scarf very soon too. Thermal is at about 9 inches right now--only 6 more to go(!!!!). :P Oh, and I set up my swift and winder last night. I wound a ball of my artyarns and I let my sister wind another one. My fiance didn't get a turn but it's still set up and I'm probably going to just leave the set-up out. He wanted to get a pic of me winding last night but I told him the lighting was bad and it wasn't a good idea. Oh other good news (don't know how I failed to mention this in last night's post..must've been all the red getting to me!)-my sister is going to learn how to knit! I failed to mention that she was my color expert yesterday while yarn shopping and she was touching all the fo's (as was my fiance) and particularly liked the felted bags they had there. In the car, I suggested that she learn how to knit (I've been trying to get her to do something crafty as a destressor!). I've suggested needlepoint, scrapbooking, jewelrymaking, etc. So in the car I told her she should learn how to knit..she can be the one that knits bags and does felted stuff because it's an avenue I have yet to venture out in and she seemed to like that idea. I told her I'd teach her and she kind of lit up and said, "Oh yeah??" ;) So this weekend, while we're home for Easter, I'm going to teach her how to knit. :) Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I noticed a possible interest in knitting from her when I saw her watching me as I worked on my so-called scarf. She was looking at the stitching and watching me knit. She hadn't ever done that before! I can't wait. :) Oooh, the excitement continues. :) I received my partner for the Get Stitchy Stitch Marker Exchange today. :) Here's a link to her blog. I absolutely love that hoodie she made for ms. mandy pie! :) I also just stumbled upon yet another person wanting to revive the lost art of letter-writing. I don't know when the last day is to sign up so sign up quickly if you're interested! :)

a red day

My persephone scarf is growing! I'm still not completely in love with my yarn choice but it is really soft! And look at the amazing cable pattern that is appearing before my very eyes! I went down a needle and am using 5's instead of 6's. I changed needles too. I was using some slippery ones and was losing stitches here and there so I'm now using some balene straights and I went down to a 4 to see if there would be a difference. It's a quick knit. I have calculated that if I just do one pattern repeat a day (16 rows) I'll be done in 22 days. I'm halfway through my pattern repeat for the day!
What's this red goodness? It's the yarn I picked out for my wicked. Talk about a splurge! I wanted to head down to Stitch Cafe and Unwind today to pick up my yarn for my wicked (from unwind) and my yarn for Carie from fitted knits but we only had time to stop off at one of the shops because we had to get my sister to work on time! Since we only hit one store and I only had about 30 min. tops in the store, I decided I'd get the yarn for my wicked. My fiance is the one who splurged. :) ETA: I realized after I had already posted this that I forgot to put what yarn this is! It is ArtYarns SuperMerino # 115. They had some rio de la plata but I wanted some malabrigo for the carie. The pattern calls for cascade magnum and I saw on someone's blog that they subbed malabrigo for the cascade (for something else) which I thought was a wonderful idea! I'm going to wait though. It's not like I'm going to be able to cast on for it anytime soon!
